An age-friendly home is one that meets our needs conveniently and safely, regardless of age and abilities. If you are very lucky, you will already be living in an age-friendly home, but the chances are slim. Only 9% of all homes in England have the basic of features that make a home suitable for all life stages (such as a step-free entrance and WC) and even fewer are fully accessible. Most properties need adjustment to make them suitable for common age-related needs and almost all homes need significant home adaptation for more complex health conditions and disabilities.
Don’t worry though, there are many affordable and simple things that you can do to make your (or a loved one’s) home more age-friendly and accessible, and we are here to help. You can do these improvements gradually over time – the sooner you start the easier and more cost effective it is.
